MSICA Members Vote To Sign Contract Under Protest

updateOn September 15, 2016, the General Membership of the Massachusetts Snow & Ice Contractors Association voted unanimously to sign the 2016 – 2017 Snow and Ice Agreement with MassDot

UNDER PROTEST!

After much discussion, the Membership finds the MassDOT contract to be completely one-sided and unfair.  There are no raises for plow or spreader trucks, they are reintroducing 2 forms of GPS tracking, raising the benchmark date on the fuel surcharge formula, again, removing the extended season bonus for all loaders and slashing the payment for tailgate training almost in half!

The Membership has voted to sign the agreement, under protest, and submit the necessary documents by the first deadline which is Friday, September 23rd.  Failure to meet the deadline could mean loss of the early sign up bonus and the possibility of losing positions.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT

The Executive Board of the MSICA will continue to fight for change in the wake of these circumstances.  Board members and our secretary have been inundated with phone calls and emails from contractors who are totally taken aback by this unfair agreement, the conditions we work under and the flagrant bullying of snow and ice contractors.  In fact, promises and commitments made in earlier negotiations were entirely left out and ignored!

The DOT has shown its true colors!  Contractors work tirelessly and around the clock if necessary.  We do this to keep our roadways safe and to prevent an economic shutdown throughout the state during snow events.

The Department should be lining up to thank contractors face to face.

Instead it is more like a slap in the face!

PLEASE LEND YOUR VOICE TO THE COLLECTIVE EFFORT!

We need ALL contractors to notify MassDOT, via email, of your protest to this unfair agreement.
